Artist’s Statement
I am an artist because it satisfies something deep within me. The very simple act of applying paint to canvas excites and fulfills me. My work explores the relationship between the real and abstraction, often shifting over to pure abstract as an exploration of the real.

2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 – commissioned by the city of montgomery to create the artwork for the riverwalk wine festival
2012, 2013, 2015 – commissioned by the city of wetumpka to create the artwork for the river and blues jazz festival
2011 – retrospective one-woman show at the university of alabama’s ferguson gallery, tuscaloosa, alabama
Bio
Carol Barksdale grew up in a military family traveling the world. She lived in Germany, Norway, the Philippines and Rome, Italy. Carol graduated high school from Marymount International School, a private school in Rome, Italy. She returned to the United States to finish college at the University of Alabama. She has been painting professionally ever since.
Carol has won many awards for her artwork. Her paintings are in numerous public and private collections, including Alabama Power, the Energen Corporation and Moore Wealth Management. She was commissioned by the City of Montgomery, Alabama, to create a series of posters for the Riverwalk Wine Festival. Carol was also commissioned by the City of Wetumpka, Alabama to create posters for their annual River and Blues Jazz Festival.
Carol’s artwork is represented by Gallery One of Montgomery, Alabama, where she also serves as President.
